Police say an area transient man was arrested, booked and pleaded guilty to a crime earlier this year under the guise of another man's name.

Joseph H. Moore

Police say on May 16, Joseph H. Moore, 38, was arrested for simple assault and provided police with another person's identification information to conceal his name from officers.

According to complaints filed Wednesday by the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, Moore went through the entire arrest, booking and court process under the false name.

Moore's plea of guilty resulted in a guilty conviction of another person for a crime they didn't commit, police say.

Moore has been charged with a serious misdemeanor charge for malicious prosecution and an aggravated misdemeanor for tampering with records.

According to the Johnson County Jail website, Moore also faces charges for unauthorized use of a credit card and second degree theft, both class D felonies, and two aggravated misdemeanor charges for third degree theft.

Moore was being held Thursday in the Johnson County Jail.
