The Regina Catholic Education Center Board of Education sent an email Monday to parents and stakeholders about concerns regarding "a report released about Regina's president Lee Iben."

The email reads, "Though the Board does not comment on personnel issues, be assured the Board is aware of the true nature of the situation and is addressing it."

The Board would not allow a Press-Citizen reporter to attend Tuesday's Board of Education meeting, held at the private education center. Board chairman Jim Nepola gave a reporter a copy of the email before the meeting.

After the meeting, Nepola declined to comment on the nature of the report about Iben mentioned in the email.

"The release, which we put out yesterday to our community, reflects the information that is as accurate and complete as we wish to put out," he said.

He said parents during the meeting spoke about reports they'd read in the media and that many parents participated.

"We invited their comments, as we always do, and they spoke up, and we heard them," he said.

About a dozen attendees declined to comment after exiting the room where the Board met.

Iben after the meeting also declined to comment.

The email to parents mentioned an "Enrollment Catalyst Survey" that aimed "to offer insight into increasing enrollment at Regina."

It reads that results of this survey were provided to Regina's director of admissions, Iben and other administrators but the results were not provided to the Board "in their entirety."

"The Board has since reviewed the complete report," the email reads.

Nepola after the meeting declined to comment on the relationship between the survey and concerns about Iben.

"We believe the statement we put out accurately reflects the position of the Board of Education of Regina regarding comments that were in the community regarding a survey or document," he said. "That is the accurate name for the document that was being discussed."

He said the Board recently commissioned a consulting firm specializing in school enrollment to create a report, including the survey, to assist the center's director of admissions.
