I.C. school board president Hoelscher resigns from board

Iowa City Community School Board President Sally Hoelscher has resigned from the School Board.

Hoelscher announced her resignation in an email to her fellow board members late Tuesday, and she posted the following message on her Facebook page shortly after midnight Wednesday:

"Friends, I just want to let you know that for personal reasons I have resigned from the School Board, effective immediately. I have been honored to have an opportunity to serve in this way and have cherished the support I have received from so many of you. Thank you."

Hoelscher was elected to the board in 2011 and was elected president of the board in September 2013.

The district is expected to release more information Wednesday.
